The Remembrance Service on 12th November was very well attended. We were successful in tracing the relatives of some of the soldiers who died in the Battle of the Somme between July and November 1916 and who were either buried or commemorated on family graves within Welford Road Cemetery. Many of these attended the service at the War Memorial within the cemetery and returned with us to the Visitor Centre afterwards for refreshments. The photograph shows our War Memorial in the sunshine the previous day, although wet on the Saturday, this did not deter the many visitors who joined us for the service.
The research into the relatives of all of the soldiers either buried or commemorated on family graves within Welford Road Cemetery is an ongoing project and we look forward to meeting many more in the future.
